Founded in 1957, Florida State University's Higher Education program has a rich history of equipping students for professional achievement. Both professors and learners frequently share studies addressing educational policy matters across national, state, and campus contexts. Currently ranked 13th nationally, our program emphasizes three key foundations: academic achievement, management skills, and equity initiatives. Throughout their studies, participants access pathways for professional growth and career development while expanding their knowledge and reigniting their passion. Florida State provides both master's (M.S.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in higher education.
The Ph.D. program caters to those pursuing academic research or policy evaluation in postsecondary education. Candidates select between two specialization paths: student services or education policy. The program structure readies alumni for scholarly, teaching, and leadership roles through foundational courses, specialized classes, electives, and research components. Successful candidates produce original research meeting the rigorous standards of leading professional organizations and scholarly journals. Alumni pursue diverse opportunities in academic, research, and administrative positions across the U.S. and internationally. Applications for this program must be submitted by June 1, 2024.
