Earning a PhD in Financial Mathematics involves completing an original research dissertation supervised by a primary advisor or co-advisors, followed by an oral defense. Prospective students enter the program under the Director's initial mentorship rather than being assigned to a specific research group. During their first year, candidates focus on coursework while familiarizing themselves with faculty members, typically selecting their primary advisor in the second year. This advisor then becomes the student's main academic guide. Students must achieve PhD Candidacy status before submitting their dissertation, a milestone usually reached after five or six semesters for full-time participants, as outlined in the program requirements.
