The department provides Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Science (MS), and non-thesis Master of Engineering (MEng) programs with specializations in structural, geotechnical, transportation, construction, water resources, and environmental engineering. Key focus areas in civil engineering encompass bridge design and management systems, cement-based materials, construction oversight, wind engineering, geo-environmental studies, pavement systems, transportation infrastructure, disaster preparedness, computer-assisted design tools, and the combination of physical and digital modeling for civil engineering applications. For water resources, the program highlights fluid mechanics, water cycle studies, groundwater dynamics, and simulations of river basins and coastal regions. Environmental engineering concentrations cover water purification, sewage treatment, contamination cleanup, toxic waste handling, ecological systems evaluation, and sustainable environmental practices.

Qualification Requirements

MS PhD Track: Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering or science discipline from an accredited college or university.
BS PhD Track: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering or science discipline from an accredited college or university.
Good academic standing at the academic institution last attended.
A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all coursework attempted as an upper division student (beyond 60 semester credit hours) or a graduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) recommended minimum percentile ranks of 35% on the verbal reasoning section and 70% on the quantitative section (for tests taken after 2015, the corresponding scaled scores are 148 verbal and 159 quantitative). However, the decision to admit will be based on a prospective student's entire application package.

Statement of Purpose describing reasons for pursuing the PhD of Engineering degree and career goals.
Three signed letters of recommendation on official letterheads, from academic or professionals attesting to the PhD study potential of the applicant.
