The volume of data produced globally has skyrocketed, reaching levels of quantity and quality never before seen. This trend is only accelerating, with the digital realm expanding at a staggering pace. Our civil and environmental engineering teams are pioneering innovative data-gathering methods—from wireless sensors to drone technology—while simultaneously developing advanced techniques to interpret, visualize, and apply this wealth of information.

Consider our city infrastructures, some of the most intricate networks on Earth. These combine engineered systems (like transit networks, utilities, and communications) with ecological systems (including waterways, atmosphere, and woodlands) alongside societal frameworks that sustain communities (encompassing education, commerce, legal institutions, and medical services). Simulating these interconnected mega-systems will demand data handling capabilities beyond anything previously attempted.
