The String Area offers instruction in violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, and guitar. Our renowned faculty of artist-educators is committed to fostering each student's comprehensive growth within a challenging yet supportive setting. The College of Music maintains that exceptional performance standards should underpin all music degree programs. Alumni from our string program have secured positions with professional orchestras, academic institutions across the U.S. and internationally, excelled as music educators, and earned prestigious awards in national and global competitions. Students benefit from working alongside exceptional international peers, with performance-oriented and non-performance majors collaborating in diverse musical settings including chamber groups, orchestral productions, opera performances, and student-led recitals. Our extensive chamber music curriculum receives guidance from the entire string faculty. The program presents approximately 600 annual performances featuring students, faculty, and visiting artists. With its balanced academic approach, distinguished instructors, abundant performance possibilities, and talented student body, FSU's string program ranks among the nation's premier offerings.
