The curriculum covers jazz history, improvisation, and arranging techniques, along with non-music elective options. At FSU, students join a dynamic musical community with ample chances to work alongside our accomplished and passionate faculty members.
Our instructors leverage their teaching expertise and international music industry networks to equip students with career-launching skills in their desired specialties. The FSU College of Music fosters a stimulating atmosphere where students can pursue varied interests while receiving individualized guidance to reach their educational and career objectives.
The College serves as home base for multiple campus orchestras, bands, choirs, jazz ensembles, early music groups, 9 world music ensembles, various chamber groups, plus the Florida State Opera and Music Theater Program. Annually, we present approximately 350 performances and events while hosting national conferences, masterclasses, and festivals including our biennial Festival of New Music. Our distinguished history informs our standards of excellence while motivating us to pursue ongoing improvement. However, our true measure lies in how we serve you - the aspiring musicians who will fill our practice rooms, lecture halls, and studios. We welcome students at every level who are committed to maximizing their professional development. We look for individuals who will enhance FSU's vibrant musical culture. Most importantly, we desire students who will value our College's welcoming atmosphere. Florida State University has maintained continuous accreditation with the National Association of Schools of Music since 1930.
