The Bachelor of Arts in Music is a liberal arts program without a specialization. This degree features foundational coursework in music theory, ear training, and music history, complemented by individual lessons and group performances. With a 60-credit requirement, the program allows students the flexibility to combine it with another major or minor. After reviewing these details, prospective students can explore our Prospective Music Students page for an overview of our music curriculum.
To declare a music major or minor and register for core music courses, students must pass an entrance audition on their principal instrument or voice. We recommend that incoming music majors audition during their application year to Western Washington University. While most students begin in fall quarter, we do consider winter quarter applicants based on program capacity. For specific audition procedures, visit our Music Auditions page, then proceed to the Entrance & Scholarship Audition section to review dates, deadlines, and preparation guidelines.
