Florida International University (FIU) provides a 30-credit Master's program in Disaster Management through its Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work. This graduate program was created to address the increasing demand for advanced education in disaster preparedness and response. Leveraging expertise from FIU's top-ranked colleges and seasoned disaster professionals with global and domestic experience, the curriculum spans multiple disciplines to enhance the capabilities of current practitioners and newcomers to this dynamic field. The degree follows an intensive 11-month executive format, concluding with a hands-on field operations course where students participate in realistic disaster simulations. These exercises cover critical real-world challenges like rapid assessments, emergency shelter planning, sanitation solutions, security protocols, food distribution, and military coordination during crises.
