Our Forensic Science program provides comprehensive education in chemistry and forensic analysis. Students engaged in forensic chemistry research gain access to cutting-edge laboratory facilities with advanced equipment. The Global Forensic and Justice Center oversees collaborative research involving numerous chemistry and biology faculty members, supporting innovative forensic science investigations.

The curriculum highlights both environmental and biomedical chemistry applications. Current studies explore diverse initiatives across these fields. Environmental research encompasses analyzing biogeochemical cycles of critical trace elements like mercury and arsenic, investigating hydrocarbon distribution in ancient sediments through SFC extraction, examining atmospheric molecules and particulates, photocatalytic breakdown of organophosphates, and employing spin trapping techniques to detect free radicals in stressed samples. Biomedical studies involve creating biologically active compounds to study enzyme functions, computational modeling of protease enzyme active sites, and analyzing how diet affects macular pigment composition.

Program alumni pursue professional opportunities in academia, federal laboratories (including DEA, FBI, DHS, Secret Service, ATF), government organizations, private research facilities, corporate sectors, or entrepreneurial ventures.
