The Division of Physical Therapy, part of FAMU's School of Allied Health Sciences, launched in 1981 as Florida's third physical therapy program within the State University System. The initial bachelor's degree cohort began in 1982, with the final undergraduate class completing their studies in August 2001. Today, admission to the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program requires applicants to hold an undergraduate degree first. Mirroring other SUS physical therapy programs, FAMU enrolls candidates as graduate students in its professional curriculum.
Physical therapy focuses on assessing and rehabilitating patients with movement impairments, disabilities, or injuries stemming from musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular conditions, or age-related issues. Therapists work with patients of all ages, enhancing mobility and fostering self-sufficiency throughout life's stages.
