The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is dedicated to instructing students in the core principles of civil engineering science, analysis, design, and management, enabling them to pursue careers as professional engineers. It engages in fundamental and applied research to advance civil engineering knowledge, acts as a resource for community engineering advice, and supports the ongoing education of engineers and other interested parties. The department has a particular commitment to making civil engineering education accessible to minorities and women.
The civil engineering Bachelor's degree program offers two majors: Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Both majors share a significant portion of the curriculum, covering areas such as liberal studies, mathematics, basic sciences, general engineering principles, and civil engineering science and design. Students choose history/social science and humanities/fine arts electives to meet the FSU liberal studies or FAMU general education requirements.
