The Emory New Testament (NT) Course of Study focuses on examining texts within their historical settings, exploring the history of biblical interpretation, and delving into New Testament theology. Students learn traditional critical methodologies that have shaped modern NT scholarship, while also engaging with contemporary approaches like literary, rhetorical, text-linguistic, and social analysis. To encourage interdisciplinary perspectives, the program mandates significant study in at least one discipline beyond New Testament studies. Potential complementary fields include early Christian writings, theological studies, moral philosophy, social sciences, ancient civilizations, literary theory, language studies, or aspects of other religious traditions like Judaism, Islam, or Hinduism.
