The Jewish Religious Cultures (JRC) program provides diverse pathways for graduate-level exploration in Jewish studies, leveraging Emory's extensive interdisciplinary resources. Our approach combines cutting-edge methodologies in religious scholarship with rigorous training in relevant languages and research techniques. The program emphasizes tailored academic journeys, supporting both text-based and culture-focused investigations.
Key strengths of our curriculum feature ethnographic approaches to Jewish communities (enhanced by Emory's Forum for the Ethnographic Study of Religion), forthcoming studies of Judeo-Arabic religious texts including the Cairo Geniza collection, analysis of Hebrew Bible interpretation across historical periods, and contemporary Jewish philosophy. Participants gain access to the full spectrum of resources from the Graduate Division of Religion, complemented by collaborations with Emory's Tam Institute for Jewish Studies, Center for Law and Religion, Institute for Liberal Arts, and Islamic Civilizations initiative. We welcome scholars seeking deep methodological expertise within their specialization while maintaining wide-ranging intellectual curiosity.
