The Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology (NBB) program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that delivers a distinctive scientific education, preparing students for advanced work in biological and behavioral research as well as medical fields. As one of Emory College's flagship programs, NBB boasts over 500 enrolled students and sees roughly 140 graduates annually with Bachelor of Science degrees. The program benefits from the knowledge, dedication, and diverse expertise of faculty spanning multiple disciplines, including biology, psychology, anthropology, chemistry, philosophy, and the School of Medicine. Among NBB's distinguished faculty are 25 Emory Distinguished Professors recognized by the Office of the Provost and 14 recipients of the prestigious Emory Williams Teaching Award, the university's highest honor for teaching excellence.
NBB students gain hands-on experience through independent lab research with faculty, participate in stimulating academic discussions, and attend seminars featuring renowned guest speakers. High-achieving seniors may join the NBB Honors Program and Nu Rho Psi, Emory's neuroscience honor society. The program also provides exceptional opportunities to collaborate with researchers from leading institutions like the Yerkes National Primate Research Center, CDC, American Cancer Society, and Neuroscience Initiative. Additionally, NBB majors can pursue global learning experiences through study abroad programs at Scotland's St Andrews University, Australia's Melbourne University, or summer courses in Paris, France, where they can fulfill core and elective requirements.
