The Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Majors and Minor offer students exceptional versatility: those dedicated to comprehensive neuroscience training can select between two specialized tracks. One focuses on cognitive/behavioral aspects, highlighting neural processing outcomes and circuit-level functions, while the other concentrates on molecular/cellular approaches, exploring genetic, biochemical, and cellular foundations of nervous system development and operation. For students pursuing other disciplines but wanting significant neuroscience exposure, a minor is available. All three pathways mandate three foundational courses: Introduction to Neuroscience, Neurobiology, and Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience. Following these, students can select from various advanced lectures and laboratory courses covering diverse neuroscience topics. Additionally, LUC's lake shore faculty includes 12 neuroscientists, creating opportunities for undergraduate research projects. LU Medical Center neuroscientists present annual lectures at the Lake Shore Campus, and students may pursue research internships with medical school faculty.
The B.S. in cognitive/behavioral neuroscience examines the neural basis of thought processes and actions, employing techniques from cognitive psychology, behavioral studies, psychobiology, and computer science to interpret brain-related empirical findings.
