The department offers two primary majors for students to explore these and related topics. PHIL is a classic philosophy program that introduces students to philosophy's extensive heritage while offering comprehensive training in subjects such as ethics, metaphysics, aesthetics, and epistemology. PHIL serves as a foundational liberal arts discipline that sparks students' curiosity about the world and deepens their understanding of life's most profound inquiries. PPL (Philosophy, Politics, Law) is another liberal arts major. It incorporates interdisciplinary elements and concentrates on issues emerging in political and legal spheres. PPL (Philosophy, Politics, Law) is a liberal arts program aimed at cultivating informed and active citizens. This major familiarizes students with key normative questions central to governance and legal systems, including concepts of justice, political authority, and ongoing and historical discussions about democracy, liberty, rights, and representative governance. Additionally, students will examine these and connected themes through elective courses from other college departments, creating an interdisciplinary approach to philosophy, politics, and law.
