Emory University's Music Department provides diverse musical opportunities in academic, performance, and studio settings. Students benefit from personalized training with top Atlanta professionals, including Atlanta Symphony Orchestra members, while exploring subjects like music theory, history, world music, composition, and performance. The program features various ensembles—including choral groups, orchestras, jazz bands, and chamber music—available to both music majors and non-majors. Music majors earn a Bachelor of Arts degree, gaining performance skills through private lessons and ensemble work, along with strong foundations in music theory and history. Private instruction is available in piano, voice, strings, winds, guitar, percussion, jazz, and nonwestern instruments for qualified students, with public recital opportunities. The department hosts ensembles such as the University Chorus, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensembles, welcoming all students to audition each semester. Throughout the year, Emory hosts concerts featuring renowned artists through programs like the Music at Emory Series and Flora Glenn Candler Artists Series. The Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta and resident VEGA String Quartet regularly perform and mentor students. Additionally, Atlanta's vibrant music scene offers further enrichment for Emory students.
