Earth Scientists combine diverse disciplines to tackle major global issues confronting our expanding population, including climate shifts, shoreline degradation, seismic risks, marine pH changes, rising ocean levels, and renewable energy solutions. As an Earth Science student, you'll master applying scientific principles through hands-on classroom, fieldwork, and lab activities. You'll examine surface and subsurface Earth processes and their interactions that create large-scale planetary systems like weather cycles, landform development, ocean currents, and climatic variations. Through strategic elective choices guided by an Earth Science advisor, you'll develop specialized expertise in a particular Earth System aspect. Those particularly drawn to the planet's solid structures might pursue a Geology specialization. An Earth Science degree opens doors to environmental, resource management, or infrastructure careers across consulting firms, government agencies, private industries, academic institutions, and research centers. This foundation also provides excellent preparation for advanced studies in Earth Sciences or related disciplines. Aspiring Earth Science professionals should note that Master's-level education or higher is increasingly essential. Numerous graduate programs have STEM prerequisites exceeding this program's minimum requirements. Consult with an Earth Science advisor to chart your optimal career trajectory and necessary steps to reach your goals.
