Physical therapy involves treatment and services delivered by or overseen by a physical therapist, encompassing: 1) assessing patients with health conditions, impairments, and functional limitations to establish diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment plans, 2) reducing impairments through customized therapeutic interventions, 3) preventing injuries and disabilities while enhancing overall wellness across all age groups, and 4) participating in education, consultation, and research.
The Department of Physical Therapy provides a Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) program. This curriculum blends academic instruction with hands-on clinical training, equipping graduates to fulfill the growing roles of physical therapists in evaluation, prevention, rehabilitation, acute care, education, and research. Prospective students should demonstrate strong academic foundations, critical thinking skills, and sound judgment, along with personal attributes like adaptability, accountability, and empathy.
The department's goal is to develop physical therapy professionals committed to continuous learning, teamwork, and leadership to enhance community and societal health.
