The Department of Social Work provides an undergraduate program culminating in a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree. This curriculum delivers fundamental understanding of social welfare systems, the social work field, and the essential professional knowledge, ethics, and abilities required for entry-level generalist practice. It also equips students for advanced studies in social work and related disciplines. Aligned with ETSU's broader mission, the BSW program aims to develop competencies embodying core values and ethical standards for generalist social work practice. The program upholds social work's fundamental principles by advancing human dignity and community welfare through advocacy for social/economic justice, safeguarding human rights, alleviating poverty, and improving quality of life. Through comprehensive education, the program cultivates skilled graduates prepared for diverse social welfare roles, particularly serving Northeastern Tennessee and the southern Appalachian communities.
