The Women's and Gender Studies program takes an interdisciplinary approach, using intersectional analysis to explore how various factors like class, race, ethnicity, sexuality, age, ability, and cultural background influence the experiences of women, men, gender non-conforming, trans, and non-binary individuals.
Drawing from feminist theories and research across multiple disciplines, the program equips students with tools to critically analyze gender and its relationship to other social identities. It bridges academic feminist scholarship with activism, applying a global perspective to advance social justice both domestically and internationally. These analytical frameworks prove valuable when combined with other majors, minors, or professional pursuits. Students can choose between a major or minor, selecting from diverse cross-departmental courses.
To connect academic learning with real-world application, majors complete an internship in their chosen field. Those considering nonprofit careers may also explore the Semester on Social Entrepreneurship opportunity.
