The Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies (LALACS) program is an interdisciplinary field combining Latin American/Caribbean studies with Latino studies. LALACS courses span humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary fields, featuring study abroad opportunities in Havana, Cuba, and hands-on learning with immigrant communities. The department cultivates a cooperative space where students, faculty, and staff can explore and exchange knowledge about Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean languages, cultures, societies, politics, geography, and history. LALACS upholds Dartmouth's tradition of outstanding liberal arts education, undergraduate research, global perspectives, and civic engagement. Its interdisciplinary approach encourages collaboration across academic disciplines while maintaining rigorous scholarly standards. With small class sizes facilitating close student-faculty interaction, LALACS professors frequently mentor students on independent research and honors theses.
