Dartmouth is renowned nationwide as an exceptional institution for language and literature studies. The French and Italian Department has consistently pioneered in introducing students to diverse cultures. Relative to its undergraduate size, we rank among the largest foreign literature departments in the U.S. Our curriculum spans from introductory language classes to literary surveys and specialized advanced seminars. Both major and minor degree options are available through our department. Annually, we provide about eight semester-long study abroad programs across France and Italy. These well-structured programs, which complement on-campus coursework, are frequently highlighted by students as transformative experiences during their time at Dartmouth. Majors can focus on historical periods, specific genres (such as poetry, drama, or fiction), or thematic movements (including the Enlightenment, baroque, classicism, romanticism, or existentialism).
Students must have high school equivalent to USA. A strong GPA in high school is one indicator that you will continue to do well in college.
Most successful applicants score above 100 on the TOEFL exam or above 7 on IELTS.
