Atmospheric science focuses on examining atmospheric processes, spanning from the planetary boundary layer up to the ionosphere. This field plays a crucial role in analyzing and forecasting weather patterns and climate trends. We're currently witnessing a dynamic era in atmospheric sciences marked by rapid advancements, heightened public interest, and growing societal importance. The discipline encompasses meteorology and climatology, which utilize mathematics and fundamental physical sciences to decode intricate natural systems. Its scope varies widely—from studying small-scale turbulent phenomena to predicting weather events in meteorology, and analyzing large-scale climate change processes across continents and globally.

Our atmospheric science graduate program provides comprehensive financial assistance, covering tuition, living stipends, and health insurance for all admitted students. Consequently, we occasionally must turn down highly qualified applicants when their research interests don't align with our programs or when external funding is scarce. Funding opportunities include graduate research assistantships from either the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences or faculty research grants, along with teaching assistantships through the department. We strongly encourage both prospective and current graduate students to seek funding from organizations like NSF, NASA, AMS, NOAA, and other institutions offering atmospheric science fellowships and scholarships.
