The Master of Food Science (MFS) is a one-year, course-focused graduate program provided by Cornell's Field of Food Science and Technology. This professional degree caters to working professionals seeking to enhance their expertise, as well as individuals with bachelor's degrees in related (non-food science) fields looking to transition into food science careers. Applicants without science backgrounds (such as those with degrees in humanities or business) can qualify by completing about 15 credits of foundational science coursework, including recommended classes like General Biology, Calculus, Chemistry (with labs preferred), Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Microbiology. The program features seven specialized tracks, each building essential skills and problem-solving abilities for specific food science sectors, complete with capstone projects and alumni career examples.
The enology specialization focuses on the scientific principles and hands-on skills needed for wine production and global industry operations. Delivered by Cornell's top-ranked Food Science program, the MFS in Enology provides tailored curriculum and practical experiences to boost technical proficiency and career prospects. This 30-credit program can be finished in two full-time semesters, equipping students with current industry knowledge, analytical skills, and advanced enology methodologies. The degree enhances professional capabilities, fostering innovative leadership in the wine industry and related fields.
