During the initial phase of the program, you'll undertake core coursework in management and related disciplines – many emphasizing research methodologies to ready you for dissertation work. You'll analyze current scholarship and theoretical frameworks alongside peers for academic assignments, frequently involving independent research projects. As you advance through the PhD program, you can select specialized courses aligned with your research focus. A faculty advisory committee will provide guidance to ensure your academic progress. Opportunities for joint research with faculty mentors begin as early as year one. The most desirable preparation is strong undergraduate work in relevant fields such as economics, engineering, mathematics, operations research, psychology, sociology, or another physical or social science. Students may be admitted directly from a bachelor's degree program or after a distinguished record in an M.B.A. or other master's program. A knowledge of mathematics at least through calculus is essential.
