The PhD program is designed as a full-time, year-round commitment, typically spanning four to five years for completion. Success demands significant dedication, with students required to live in Seattle and engage fully in the program. Under faculty mentorship, doctoral candidates will develop tailored study plans featuring one primary specialization and at least two secondary focus areas. Beyond classroom learning, departments host frequent seminars where students and professors analyze and discuss cutting-edge research.
The Management doctoral program enables students to undertake advanced studies alongside distinguished faculty from diverse backgrounds. This interdisciplinary field bridges organizational studies with disciplines like sociology, economics, and psychology, exploring both macro and micro factors influencing organizational performance. The curriculum prepares graduates to produce publishable research for top academic journals and secure faculty positions at prestigious research institutions worldwide. The management PhD offers two primary concentrations: 1) Strategic Management, and 2) Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management (OB/HRM), with an optional minor for those pursuing other specializations.
