The Bachelor of Science in Information Science (IS) enables students to explore how digital information is designed, structured, managed, utilized, and examined. This program, offered through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), grants a BS degree in Information Science. The IS curriculum focuses on understanding information systems within societal frameworks, investigating how digital data is generated, structured, organized, applied, and evaluated. Additionally, the department provides a distinct Bachelor of Science in Information Science, Systems, and Technology (ISST) for Engineering students, which varies significantly from the A&S and CALS IS programs.

Careers in this field demand expertise in data analytics, statistical evaluation, and effective communication across business, academic, and government sectors. For instance, a Data Journalist identifies real-world issues, gathers and processes relevant data, and clearly communicates findings. Similar roles include data scientist, statistician, data engineer, and machine learning engineer.
