At UTSA, students can pursue a Computer Science degree with specialized focus areas including Cloud and Systems, Cyber Security, Data Science, Software Engineering, or the unique Cyber Operations track. These concentrations are selected after admission, in consultation with an academic advisor.
Internships provide hands-on experience, career exploration, and enhanced employability. Through Handshake, UTSA's career platform, students can discover job openings, internships, and recruitment events. The university's Career Center features dedicated STEM career advisors offering guidance and internship resources for all science majors.
The Computer Science Department conducts pioneering research across key domains: cybersecurity, data analytics, virtual reality, and networked systems. Faculty expertise spans artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, bioinformatics, IoT, embedded systems, parallel computing, and computer graphics. The department maintains specialized classrooms, an instructional lab, 20 research labs, and two major research centers: CIAS and ICS. Faculty collaborate with UTSA's Data Science School, National Security Collaboration Center, and AI Matrix Consortium.
The cloud encompasses internet-accessible resources. Cloud computing enables on-demand access to remote computing power, algorithms, and data storage beyond local devices. For instance, Gmail operates as a cloud service, allowing email management without storing messages on personal computers.
