The Art Department has unveiled a revamped B.F.A. program tailored for students who view themselves as both creatives and academics. This new framework merges the art department's immersive studio environment with expanded opportunities to explore electives across the university. Emphasizing cross-disciplinary connections, the department seeks to cultivate a generation of artists poised to become cultural and intellectual pioneers. Students can design a personalized academic path to accelerate the development of their professional artistic practice. The B.F.A. comprises two academic pillars: department-specific art courses (64 credits) and university-wide electives (56 credits). Studio courses and seminars cover diverse disciplines including: Digital arts, Drawing techniques, Painting methods, Photographic arts, Printmaking, Three-dimensional art, And specialized subject areas. The foundational curriculum includes six introductory studio classes (drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, print media, and digital media) paired with an intensive art seminar during the initial three semesters.
The sculpture concentration enables students to work across conventional and innovative mediums. Within this collaborative setting, learners acquire technical skills and material knowledge while examining sculptural practice through both creative and analytical perspectives. The program fosters experimentation, utilizing campus fabrication resources and supporting individual artistic pursuits like cross-disciplinary collaborations, environmental installations, community-engaged projects, and civic artworks. Regular group critiques and individual mentoring sessions form the cornerstone of the educational experience, challenging students to evolve as both practitioners and conceptual thinkers.
