The one-year Free-Standing Master's program in sociology offers a rigorous blend of scholarly instruction and self-directed research, concluding with a thesis project. Students are urged to transcend conventional qualitative-quantitative distinctions and push sociological boundaries. Though emphasizing ethnographic techniques for urban studies, the program welcomes diverse interests including statistical analysis, global studies, educational topics, and historical investigations. This intensive year develops sociological analysis and critique while guiding students through research endeavors in New York's urban landscape, archival collections, workplace environments, or other field sites. MA candidates follow personalized study plans while engaging with doctoral students and professors in departmental activities. Core classes establish fundamental knowledge of sociological principles and methodologies, with optional courses allowing deeper focus. Individual mentorship assists students in locating data, choosing research locations, and navigating their investigative journey. Faculty collaborate directly with learners to implement ideas, cultivate specialized knowledge, and create unique initiatives rooted in diverse community experiences. Our methodology instruction fosters creative, multifaceted research strategies throughout all phases, from initial project design to final thesis completion.
Applicant must have the equivalent of the U.S. baccalaureate degree with a superior examination record and can understand rapid idiomatic English and can speak, write and read English with a high degree of facility are eligible for admission.

Applicant must have TOEFL score of 600 on paper-and-pencil test, 100 on the internet-based test and IELTS score of 7.5
