The Master of Arts program in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS), among the nation's pioneering programs in this field, offers rigorous scholarly preparation in feminist theory, gender studies, and sexuality research. The MA foundational curriculum emphasizes intersectional and transnational feminist frameworks. Participants can select from diverse elective courses spanning disciplines like literature, geography, history, sociology, political science, and arts, alongside legal studies, development studies, cross-cultural examinations, and sexuality research. Students may also specialize in either sexuality studies or transnational feminisms. Elective options include courses taught by core and affiliated faculty, with possibilities for internships and international study experiences. The program additionally features a combined MA/JD degree in partnership with UC's Law School, affiliated with their Center for Race, Gender and Social Justice. Both the standalone MA and dual-degree programs conclude with an original research or creative capstone project guided by a faculty advisory committee.
