The Classical Studies (CLST) graduate program brings together multiple disciplines to explore Greece, Rome, and the broader ancient Mediterranean and Near East. This interdisciplinary initiative maintains its foundational focus on history, art history, archaeology, and literature while expanding into wider examinations of ancient intellectual traditions - including philosophy, historiography, medicine, religion, and the enduring influence of classical ideas. Faculty members from various departments collaborate to sustain this cross-disciplinary perspective. Students work closely with advisors to create customized academic paths. The MA degree serves both those pursuing terminal master's studies and those preparing for doctoral applications.
Applicants should have a reading knowledge of Greek and Latin and one modern language (German, French, or Italian); some undergraduate work in classical literature, philosophy, art, or history is desirable.
