The Biomedical Informatics PhD program is a component of the Coordinated Doctoral Programs in Biomedical Sciences. This program educates students in applying scientific methodologies to healthcare and biomedical data. Full-time enrollment is mandatory, following Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) regulations. The initial two years primarily involve coursework and research activities, while subsequent years emphasize independent research leading to dissertation completion. Our doctoral candidates join us from prestigious institutions globally, forming an active research community that pushes boundaries in informatics, as demonstrated by their impressive publication histories. Students maintain a cooperative environment, regularly contributing to peers' projects, exchanging concepts, and offering mutual support. After successfully earning an MPH degree, graduates can articulate epidemiology's significance in public health and its connections to medicine, social sciences, environmental studies, and health policy. Alumni gain the ability to interpret and assess disease patterns and causes across populations, implement population-level prevention strategies, address current epidemiological challenges in multiple focus areas, recognize research ethics concerns, weigh solutions to ethical conflicts, and uphold human subject protection standards in scientific investigations.
