Educator training in school-based agricultural programs follows a three-component framework: classroom instruction, hands-on learning, and leadership growth. This professional preparation in agricultural education focuses on teaching agricultural concepts. Colorado offers these programs through roughly 120 high school initiatives across the state, serving more than 6,000 enrolled students. Those pursuing the Teacher Development track enroll in both agricultural courses and the Center for Educator Preparation (CEP). Completing a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education with this specialization qualifies graduates for Colorado teaching certification. The program mandates proficiency in educational principles and comprehensive agricultural knowledge, blending technical coursework with practical application across disciplines like animal science, crop production, agricultural engineering, environmental studies, food science, and agribusiness. Requirements include maintaining a 2.75 GPA, passing the Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources Praxis II exam, and successfully finishing a student teaching internship.
