Students pursuing a B.A. in Theatre with a Sound Design and Technology Concentration will study Drawing for Theatre, Computer Assisted Drafting for Theatre, two Sound Design courses, Projection Design, Design Portfolio & Professional Preparation, while also gaining exposure to other design disciplines like Projection, Lighting, Costume, or Set Design to enhance their understanding of theatrical collaboration. Through practicum courses, students apply their design skills by participating in departmental productions and live event design teams.
Beyond the general CSU Theatre Program Learning Objectives, this concentration focuses on specialized goals:
SOUND DESIGN and TECHNOLOGY FOR THEATRE, FILM, and INDUSTRY: Master the methods sound designers employ to conceptualize and convey ideas, incorporating research, recording, mixing, audio engineering, programming, content development, and new technologies while understanding the designer's collaborative role within creative teams.
DESIGN ARTISTRY: Cultivate the Sound Designer's dual role as both artist and technician by honing organizational, creative, musical, and technical abilities to bring productions from initial concept to final performance, while compiling a professional portfolio of design and technical work.
