As an HES student, you'll develop specialized knowledge, practical abilities, and real-world experience to drive tangible improvements. Guided by distinguished faculty with expertise across engineering, applied sciences, and social sciences, you'll emerge from Mines fully equipped for impactful careers in development, corporate social responsibility, or other fields dedicated to serving communities.
The Humanitarian Engineering and Science (HES) certificate offers flexible online or on-campus options for working professionals and graduate students pursuing other Mines degrees who wish to specialize in humanitarian applications. To earn the graduate certificate, students must complete at least 9 credits from approved courses, with no overlap from undergraduate coursework. If students have previously taken any listed courses as undergraduates, they must select alternative options approved by the HES director. While 9 credits are required, students are encouraged to complete 12 credits by adding electives from the approved HES course list below.
