Geographic information systems (GIS) are increasingly vital for numerous government and private sector functions. This certificate program offers instruction in this dynamic field while providing university credits transferable to graduate studies. Training caters to both beginners and seasoned GIS practitioners, utilizing industry-leading GIS software. The focus extends beyond conventional environmental and geological uses to include governmental and commercial applications.
Graduates of UT Dallas' GIS certificate program will gain the foundational knowledge and practical abilities to effectively execute GIS initiatives and maintain GIS systems across diverse public and private domains. These include infrastructure management, urban planning, environmental protection, market analysis, location assessment, property development, civil engineering, and natural resource discovery.
Courses are conducted in the cutting-edge GIS laboratories within the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences. The certification entails completing 15 graduate credit hours (five courses) as outlined below. All certificate coursework applies toward the Master of Science in Geospatial Information Sciences degree and can be combined with the remote sensing graduate certificate or the geosciences master's program.
