The Department of Genetics and Biochemistry aims to educate students, expand genetic understanding through innovative research, and share discoveries with both learners and the scientific world. In the biochemistry and molecular biology M.S. program, faculty leverage their research and instructional skills to equip students for professional opportunities in research, education, and corporate sectors. Students can choose between thesis-based and non-thesis academic tracks.
The Ph.D. program emphasizes designing, executing, and presenting original research under faculty guidance, culminating in a written dissertation and its oral defense.

Qualification Requirements
Students admitted to the program over the last three years averaged a GPA score of 3.4. A GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required for a competitive application. If English is an applicant's second language, the applicant must have a TOEFL score of 80 or higher or an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher.
Students admitted to the program are required to have completed a four-year bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a scale of 4.0, in an area of science (the life sciences, physical sciences or engineering). If English is your second language, you must have a TOEFL score of 80 or higher or an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher. We offer both a thesis and non-thesis track. Our default admission is to the non-thesis track. A student who would like to complete a thesis track is required to select a major adviser, which is done by mutual agreement between the student and faculty member.
