The counselor education program trains future counselors as scholar-practitioners capable of serving diverse communities. The coursework equips counseling professionals to participate in outreach and advocacy through cooperative partnerships. Students gain hands-on experience applying theoretical knowledge, research findings, and practical skills, with a focus on wellness promotion, preventive measures, and intervention strategies.
This CACREP-accredited program features a 60-credit Master of Education degree with concentrations in either clinical mental health counseling or school counseling. Additionally, students can pursue a 30-credit educational specialist degree in counselor education.
Graduates specializing in school counseling through the M.Ed. program qualify for positions in P-12 educational environments. Beyond mastering counseling techniques, they develop competencies for working with diverse groups, implementing data-informed approaches, and serving as leaders and advocates within school systems. The program also prepares them to effectively collaborate with educators, administrators, families, and community stakeholders.
