Our graduate composition program, fully accredited, is designed for individuals who have undergraduate training and show outstanding potential in musical composition. Develop essential theoretical and critical understanding in composition techniques, music history, research, and theory, guided by our distinguished faculty with extensive professional experience.
Your original works may be featured in campus-hosted concerts as well as regional and statewide conferences.
Housed in a cutting-edge 119,000-square-foot building, you'll access top-tier facilities, including a 500-seat concert hall featuring a 61-rank Casavant organ, a 100-seat recital hall, digital audio labs, recording studios, and a comprehensive music resource center.
A select number of graduate assistantships are available, providing tuition waivers for up to 20 credit hours and a $10,300 stipend. Recipients may teach introductory courses or support directors of major ensembles—an excellent opportunity for those pursuing collegiate teaching careers.
This program equips you for diverse roles in composition, performance, and music education. Graduates have secured positions with publishers such as Montoya Music and ADJ Publishers, pursued doctoral studies, and obtained tenure-track appointments at institutions like Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas. Others have had their compositions showcased at prestigious events, including the Midwest Clinic and Texas Music Educators Association conferences.
