Music is a deep passion that naturally inspires sharing with others. Those pursuing a music education degree receive extensive performance training alongside specialized coursework for K-12 teaching certification. You'll develop expertise in performance, music theory, historical studies, and teaching methods - equipping you for classroom instruction or competitive graduate programs. Under the guidance of accomplished faculty, students refine professional competencies and teaching strategies for all grade levels. CMU graduates teach in schools nationwide, at universities, and within community arts initiatives, while others excel in music publishing, retail, and arts administration. The CMU School of Music occupies a cutting-edge 119,000-square-foot complex featuring a 500-seat concert hall with a Casavant organ, recital space, digital labs, recording studios, and a music research center. Music majors may join the Residential College, living among like-minded peers who share their artistic aspirations.
