This program equips BFA students, following an approved curriculum, to obtain Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in Art for grades K-12. Participants must fulfill all BFA requirements while completing 32 credit hours in education, art education, and designated liberal arts courses. Education coursework commences during the sophomore year. Typically, students require five years to complete all requirements for the 155-credit degree. To earn Pennsylvania's Art Teaching Certificate for K-12, candidates must achieve passing scores on the Praxis I and II National Teacher Examinations, including the Elementary Education: General Knowledge and Art Education tests. Prospective teaching certification candidates should consult with the Art Education coordinator during freshman year priority registration (second semester) to map out their required course sequence. Before registering, students must submit an application for the field experiences integrated into their program during the preceding semester.
