The School of Theology and Religious Studies offers both ecclesiastical and civil degrees. The Master of Divinity degree is a civil professional degree, recognized in the United States and Canada by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). The Pontifical Sacred Theological Baccalaureate degree is a first level graduate ecclesial academic degree. The offering of the joint degrees serves to accentuate both the professional and academic realities together with a recognized civil and ecclesial degree program.

The Bachelor of Sacred Theology and Master of Divinity program is a 99-credit-hour degree program.

Coursework includes:

  • Foundational Courses (21 credits): Covering history and method in theology, Christian moral life, patristic theology, liturgy and sacraments, pastoral theology, Christian spirituality, and canon law.
  • Systematic Theology (15 credits): Topics include revelation and faith, theology of God, Christian anthropology, Christology, theology of the Church, and Christian eschatology.
  • Liturgical Studies and Sacramental Theology (6 credits): Courses such as sacraments of initiation, Eucharist, ordained ministries, and sacraments of reconciliation and anointing.
  • Moral Theology (9 credits): Focus on marriage, Christian social and political ethics, and biomedical ethics.
  • Scripture (15 credits): Two courses each from Old Testament and New Testament offerings, plus one additional course from either set.
  • Church History (3 credits): One course in church history.
  • Academic Electives (9 credits): Courses chosen based on student interests.
  • Pastoral Ministry (15 credits): Including six credits of basic supervised ministry.
  • Ministry Seminars (6 credits): Specialized seminars related to pastoral ministry.

Language Requirement:

  • Students must have a reading knowledge of Latin, which must be satisfied by the end of the first fall semester.

Practical Components:

  • Students must complete supervised ministry and practicum experiences as part of their pastoral training.
