The art history program provides students with comprehensive training across diverse artistic mediums, focusing particularly on grasping the cultural environments that shaped these works. Learners cultivate specialized terminology and analytical writing abilities to evaluate artistic pieces. An integral part of undergraduate studies involves examining and researching artworks housed in the Cleveland Museum of Art. Credit-bearing internships and volunteer opportunities exist at prominent institutions like the Cleveland Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, and other University Circle arts organizations. Graduates will exhibit visual comprehension through both written and spoken presentations. They'll apply innovative and analytical reasoning to address interpretive challenges while drawing parallels between art and broader societal, political, and cultural contexts. Students will develop proficiency in finding, understanding, and assessing various primary and secondary sources, including archival documents and digital materials.
