The School of Education provides a Certificate of Advanced Study in Leadership in Middle Level Education, which complements its Master of Arts in Education offerings.
This certificate program aims to equip working education professionals—including teachers, administrators, and counselors—with the essential knowledge, abilities, and mindset required for impactful leadership in middle school settings. Graduates will demonstrate specialized proficiency in educating young adolescents, primarily those in sixth through eighth grades.
Designed for certified teachers currently working in or pursuing middle school positions, the program accommodates both graduates of CSUSM's Middle Level Teacher Education Program and those without formal middle school training. The curriculum enhances participants' existing classroom expertise through diverse professional experiences.
Participants achieving a B grade or higher across all four Middle Level Education courses qualify for the certificate. The sole requirement for enrollment is holding a valid teaching credential.
