The Spanish Major's core mission is to advance knowledge of Spanish language and the cultures of Spanish-speaking communities. This program offers foundational understanding and appreciation of Hispanic literature, cultures, and linguistic analysis, equipping students for diverse career paths. It collaborates with and complements other academic disciplines at the University while serving local needs and fostering global awareness of the Hispanic world.
This major explores the cultural and linguistic ties between the United States and Spanish-speaking nations, emphasizing that Spanish isn't merely a foreign language but one to be valued and developed alongside English, particularly in Southern California's context.
With various concentration options, the Spanish Major provides both flexibility and academic rigor, ensuring students master essential linguistic, analytical, and cultural competencies. The curriculum reflects the distinctive characteristics of Cal State San Marcos' student population and aligns with the University's guiding principles.
