The Bachelor of Music in Music History and Literature delivers a comprehensive curriculum focused on Western music's historical and literary traditions, with options for specialized study in complementary disciplines like music theory, literature, anthropology, philosophy, history, and foreign languages. Students complete the program by writing an in-depth senior thesis guided by a music history faculty advisor. While primarily designed for those pursuing graduate studies in musicology, this degree may also appeal to students interested in non-performance music careers such as arts administration, library sciences, or media production.
Students can engage in funded summer research projects and independent studies. Additionally, they have access to the school's remarkable collection of historical instruments through Early Music Ensembles, offering hands-on experience performing medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque repertoire.
