The Spanish language curriculum provides a progressive series of classes from beginner to expert levels. Learners across all stages enhance their abilities in conversation, comprehension, reading, and composition while exploring the diverse cultures and communities of today's Spanish-speaking regions. The Hispanic Literatures and Culture specialization allows students to refine advanced Spanish competencies while gaining comprehensive knowledge about the rich history, literature, cultural expressions, and intellectual heritage of Spain, Latin America, and U.S. Latino communities. The program features numerous courses covering subjects like literary analysis, cross-cultural interactions, language evolution, visual arts, cinema, and performance studies. Cross-disciplinary approaches define the department's philosophy, with students in this track being motivated to expand their viewpoints through complementary courses in other academic areas. Many opt to enrich their educational experience by joining study abroad opportunities in Spanish-speaking countries or connecting with Latino populations within the United States.
