The English Department at CSUSB is a dynamic hub of educators, researchers, and creative writers dedicated to advancing English Studies through interdisciplinary approaches. Our Bachelor's program uniquely combines four specialized fields often kept separate in other institutions: literary analysis, creative composition, language science, and rhetorical studies. Participants develop comprehensive expertise in language's creative, analytical, and functional dimensions through diverse textual engagement. This foundation equips alumni for professional paths in communications, marketing, education, technology, healthcare administration, and beyond, while also providing excellent preparation for advanced degrees in fields ranging from legal studies to medical humanities. Graduates emerge particularly suited for meaningful participation in community leadership and social initiatives.

The curriculum features a shared foundational curriculum with four specialized tracks in literary criticism, linguistic science, artistic writing, or rhetorical analysis. For greater customization, we offer a self-designed concentration where students, guided by faculty mentors, can craft personalized study plans aligned with their career aspirations. Our teacher preparation pathway additionally qualifies future secondary educators for CSET exam exemptions prior to credential program enrollment.
